The new “conscious ink” trend has people putting affirmation tattoos as a literal permanent reminder that they are worthy.

Why get a tattoo with a positive affirmation?

The positive affirmation tattoo trend is one of the most efficacious ways to keep a positive mindset. The tattoo message should be personalized to you, and it can serve as a powerful reminder of whatever you need to hear to keep negative thoughts away. 

There are outdated beliefs that tattoos are negative or that they tend to be tied to negative life events. But just like someone might get a tattoo to memorialize a loved one, mark a wedding, or celebrate a child’s birth, you can use it to support your highest self. 

Most of the positive affirmation tattoos you’re going to see below are text-based, like a motivational quote. But you can also consider images that feel affirming too. If it represents something positive and affirming to you, you’re going to get the same positive result even if it doesn’t necessarily make sense to others. 

A quick note about text tattoos 

So: text is notoriously hard to keep looking good. It’s more important for a text tattoo than for any other to see skilled tattoo artists that are going to put some extra thought into making sure that your tattoo will look as good as possible for as long as possible. 

Tattoos bleed over the years, and the finer the lines, the more quickly you are likely to see your tattoo look a little worse for wear. You can hold this off by taking really good care of them (like using mineral sunscreen every day). But it’s worth thinking about choosing the most defined lines that you can make work for your aesthetic. 

(I hate this fact, because I love those delicate, beautiful script positive affirmation tattoos, and we are going to see a bunch of them in this post! But they’re not going to last you a lifetime.)

I wanted to start with this one because it’s a good example of script that still looks delicate but that is thick enough to age better than some of the others. This beautiful tattoo will pull you out of self-defeating thoughts and remind you of all the goodness that is coming your way!

Lovely! I like this one in particular because someone who sees it will know what it means (reminding yourself of your value) but it doesn’t get into your whole backstory. It’s personal without giving anything away. A single-word tattoo can be so understated and chic. If you’re more interested in a manifestation tattoo, you might consider something like this but “magnetic” instead. 

awake and unafraid

I love the way this artist did the & symbol!!! This tattoo is aggressive in a good way. 

i am enough

I think this super delicate script tattoo will someday be considered “very 2024” but I like that — a tattoo should remind you of who you were at different parts of your life. This one, “i am enough”, is a classic affirmation to calm your racing mind from all the things you feel like you should be doing. 

be kind to yourself

This is maybe less of an affirmation and more of a healthy reminder, but I love the way it incorporates the flowers. They’re a beautiful symbol of remembering to care for yourself and treat yourself as special and important. 

trust the wait

You know that your manifestation is coming, so it’s okay to trust the wait. I love this tattoo and I think that it is one that will stay consistent and meaningful throughout life.
