Let’s talk Botox and fillers.

Because…most of the people who want smoother skin are also looking for a fuller, more youthful appearance.

Botox injections and facial fillers are two of the most popular aesthetic treatments. And the most affordable!

The good news (to me! And maybe you too!) is that you can often get them in the same appointment. This combination of Botox and fillers can provide natural-looking results without requiring much time.

And you get different benefits from each! Botox injections work by relaxing facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles. These include forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

Facial fillers, on the other hand, restore lost volume. They help with static wrinkles, deep lines, and nasolabial folds. These are skin issues you can’t “relax” away with Botox. I’ve written about fillers for smile lines here.

By combining both injectable treatments, you can address multiple skin issues at once.

A skilled injector can customize your aesthetic treatments based on your cosmetic concerns. You might have seen this on TikTok as “facial balancing” – targeted use of filler from someone who has a really detailed approach. (These appointments should cost more! You want a really experienced injector who has studied facial harmony.)

This Botox-plus-fillers approach ensures smoother skin, improved facial volume, and optimal results. However, while getting Botox and fillers together is a good idea for many, it’s not always the best option for everyone.

How Botox and Fillers Can Work Together

Botox and fillers serve different purposes but can complement each other well. Botox cosmetic works by blocking nerve signals that cause muscle contractions. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by muscle movement.

Facial fillers, like hyaluronic acid fillers, work by plumping areas with volume loss. This can build on the smooth canvas that the Botox set up. When used together, they can enhance your most youthful and natural beauty.

This combination is often called a liquid facelift. It’s a powerful way to enhance facial features without plastic surgery. For example, Botox can smooth your smile lines while dermal filler injections add volume to the cheeks or lips, lifting the previously wrinkled skin.. Together, they provide a more youthful appearance with minimal downtime.

If you’re considering cosmetic injectables, a personalized treatment plan is the best way to achieve your aesthetic goals. Your injector will assess your facial anatomy and skin concerns to determine the right type of filler and Botox treatments for you.

When Shouldn’t You Get Botox and Fillers in the Same Appointment?

Although combining Botox and fillers can be beneficial, it’s not for everybody.

If you have ever had allergic reactions to injectable dermal fillers or botulinum toxin, your provider may suggest separate sessions. It’s so important to prioritize your medical health over aesthetics.

Some people experience swelling or bruising at the injection site. If you’re sensitive to these side effects, spacing out treatments might be a better idea. (On the other hand, if you bruise, a combo appointment might allow you to get all your bruising over with in one weekend of hiding out at home.)

Certain facial areas require different approaches. For example, treating deep lines in the nasolabial folds may involve a different type of filler than what’s used for a lip treatment. A skilled injector will know the best treatment options based on your specific needs.

Lastly, if you have an upcoming event, you may want to plan your treatments carefully. Botox takes about 3-4 months to wear off, while dermal filler treatments can last longer. Scheduling your aesthetic treatments in advance ensures the best results at the right time.

Spacing Out Your Botox and Filler When You Need To

If you decide not to get Botox and fillers at the same time, spacing them out can still lead to great results. A good approach is to start with Botox treatments and wait for the full effects before adding fillers.

You might find that you prefer this! This helps you see how muscle activity changes and whether additional volume loss needs to be addressed.

Alternatively, if your main concern is facial volume, you might begin with dermal filler injections. After seeing the results, you can determine if anti-wrinkle injections are necessary.  If the added volume makes wrinkling less obvious, you might choose to pass on the Botox. Your provider will guide you through different ways to time your treatments for a more natural-looking result.

The most important thing is to work with a skilled injector who understands facial anatomy and your cosmetic goals. Whether you choose to combine Botox and fillers or space them out, both options can help you achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Final Thoughts

So, can you get Botox and fillers at the same time? Absolutely, if you choose to.

To me, because my injector is a thirty-minute drive away, I’m always looking to combine my drives over there when I can. If I was giving advice to someone new to injectables, I would say to do the appointments separately first so you can understand the results of each treatment.

In particular, since you need to do Botox much more often than you need to do fillers, I would suggest starting with the Botox. Since you’ll need to be going back every few months, it might be a good idea to see what results you can get out of the Botox alone before you consider adding fillers.
