Milani Weekend Brow Tint Pen

Looking for a review of the Milani Weekend Brow Tint Pen? You’re in the right place.

I’m always on the lookout for affordable brow products, and it can be really tough to find solutions for a natural-looking brow.

If you’re considering buying the Milani Weekend Brow Tint Pen – read on!

What I Wanted

My  natural brows are what people generally call “strong”, with individual brow hairs that grow long and unmanageable. Though they might be wider than some other people’s eyebrows, the hair is not especially thick.

So, when I keep my brows trimmed closely enough that I don’t have wild old man eyebrows, I have spots in the brow that look sparse or bare. Especially past the arch.

And since I’m working on a post about growing eyebrows with coconut oil (to come!), things have been even more complicated.

So what I wanted out of this product is what I used to get out of the Stila Stay All Day product – a fuller effect, but still a natural brow shape and natural appearance. “My Brows But Better” type thing, so I can keep my eyebrow hairs trimmed without them looking patchy..

What I didn’t want from this product is a high contrast powder brow look, or for it to look like I had colored in the area below my brows. So I want to try the brow pen thing and see if I can get a natural looking outcome.

Milani Weekend Brow Tint info

The brand’s website calls the product a “brow tint”, which I thought was interesting – to me, that’s a process that dyes the eyebrow hairs. This product isn’t supposed to change the color of the eyebrow hairs at all. It changes the color of the skin below and around the brows. (If you actually want info about dying your brows, check out my post Henna vs Tint Eyebrows!)

Elsewhere, they say it’s supposed to make the people around you wonder if you’ve had microblading done. I have never had microblading, but I would if I was 100% sure it would look natural, so this is intriguing to me.

And the site advertises that this product can be used with brow powder, gel, or pencil. I’m curious what additional value a brow pencil is supposed to add after someone has used this pencil, or how they see it being used differently.

I feel like the name “Weekend” implies that this is supposed to last longer than a day, but there’s nothing on their website to support that. In my couple days of wearing this product, I’ve found that it comes off with my makeup normally every night.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing for it to wash off – but if you’re going into this thinking that the name means that it’s a semi-permanent product, you’re going to be disappointed.

The pen tip is actually so fine it was difficult to photograph clearly!

Review of the Milani Weekend Brow Tint Pen

I bought the pen in “Soft Brown”, which seems quite close to the Stila Stay All Day color ‘Natural Taupe’. I think the Stila girls in withdrawal (helloooo it’s me) will be happy with this color. However, if you have very light blond hair, this color may still be too dark. Many of the reviews on Milani’s site say that the soft brown coloring is still too dark for them. Some people with grayish dark blonde hair may find this to be too dark.

Soft brown is a neutral tone. I’m cool tone overall with fair skin, and this is neither warm nor cool. Because it has such an understated effect overall, that’s not a deal-breaker for me, but someone with a very warm or olive skin tone may find that it looks a little off on them.

The Milani brow tint pen also comes in two other colors: medium brown (for a medium brown hair color) and espresso (for dark brown hair or black hair).

If you’re not sure what color and you’re looking for a natural look, choose the lighter color. I am often sorry I went too dark but rarely sorry I went lighter.

The product packaging is satisfactory IMO: the pen feels solid and has a decent weight to it. It is definitely plastic but feels solid and good quality.

How to Use the Milani Weekend Brow Tint Pen

You’ll need to shake the pen first thing before use and between brows: the milani eye brow tint product is more like a marker in that way. Once it’s in the pen, you use the felt tip to simulate natural, hair-like strokes.

In my opinion, this is where the defining pen really shines — the outcome of all those little feathery strokes is an extremely natural look. I thought the claim about microblading was kind of a corny gimmick, but I do feel like it gave my brows some microblade-like definition in my sparse areas of brows. The fine lines really do give a hair-like finish versus stamping or outline products. You layer hair-like strokes that have some variation and look extremely natural.

How long it takes you to apply will depend on how much filling you need to do! But by the end of my first week using this product I was down to 45 seconds per brow.

Though the lines are so fine, the tip is bendy. It has a “sharp tip” effect but is soft and flexible on your skin. It’s a good idea to have a cotton swab on hand to remove any errors, especially around your arch or if you’re more interested in building brows outside your natural lines. But to get a more full brow in your natural lines, you’ll get a super natural-looking outcome.

As far as wear time: I am finding that it consistently lasts the day that I wear it. Its washable formula means that it comes off easily. I oil cleanse as the first step in my evening routine, and that removes it easily. However, the formula is sweatproof and does not run if I work out without removing it. That’s long-lasting wear enough for me. I still think the ‘Weekend’ branding is confusing if not outright deceptive. But as long as you go into this purchase knowing that it’s a daily product, it’s good.

Okay, get to the pictures!

(First, a disclaimer: my photography skills need some work, big time!)

Milani Brow Tint Pen Review - line samples

I did some sample lines on my arm to try to demonstrate, but they are so fine and light that they were difficult to photograph. I did a thin line on tip and pushed harder on each line as I went down to try to show the thicknesses you got at different pressures. Takeaway: the lighter you flick the pen, the more natural your overall effect!

My brows with the Soft Brown pen, plus my beloved Beauty Pie Arch-Ology Brow Gel in Blonde Girl. That addition keeps wayward hairs in place. (That is not an affiliate link! I swear that Arch-Ology must be the only brow gel in the world that doesn’t look weirdly wet all day.)

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m happy with this product. It’s filling the Stay All Day-shaped hole in my heart, and it’s a great price.

People who are looking for a natural and understated look with lightweight color will love this product. It will work best if they have black, brown, or dark blond hair.

Light blond or gray hair, or people looking for statement brows should probably look elsewhere.

I hope this was helpful. When I looked it up I couldn’t believe there was no milani brow tint pen review online!
